ADF Support to the Commonwealth Games
ADF Support to the Commonwealth Games (2.2 mins)
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is assisting the Queensland Police Service (QPS) with security in the lead-up to and during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, 4 -15 April. More than 1000 ADF personnel have deployed to the sunny state to provide military capability which will increase QPS’ capacity to respond to a range of situations. Support will be provided across air, land and sea with all three services contributing to the safe and smooth execution of the Gold Coast’s largest sporting event. Army engineers and Multi Role Helicopter (MRH90) Taipan aircraft, RAAF F/A-18 Hornet and Navy Clearance Divers will be among those on the Gold Coast ready to support. The large ADF footprint is supported by staff from all vocations including cooks, communications specialists, drivers, medics, logistics and operations staff. The ADF’s support to the Games is part of the Whole of Australian Government contribution to security, which also includes Australian Border Force and Australian Federal Police.
